Finally! An Alternative to Cornhole and Beer Pong
Whenever we tell someone about Popongo, the response is invariably the same; “Oh, it’s like cornhole” or “I see, it’s like beer pong” at which point we point them towards our Instagram Reels so they can see the game in action.
But we understand the misconception. Since the late 1800s America had been playing the same stale bag toss game (cornhole). Then in the 60s, fraternities of Dartmouth College began abusing innocent ping pong balls by tossing them into polystyrene plastic filled with Miller High Life, creating a phenomenon that can be blamed for failed GPAs. That’s been about it for the last six decades.
We knew something had to be done. You see, while cornhole and beer pong have their place, they come with inherent challenges which we have detailed below.
The Problem with Cornhole
Don’t get us wrong - cornhole is fun. However, a proper cornhole set can be cumbersome to lug around for tailgate parties (etc.) or to take out of the basement for afternoon gameplay. The regulated weight of a cornhole bag is between 1-pound (or 440-470 g), which requires each board to weigh-in at a regulated 25-30 lbs. That’s a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to set-up and break-down. Furthermore, after frequent use, cornhole bags get pretty gross. Butt-scratching, BBQ wing eating, and hand-sneezing players get their cooties all over the microfibers. If CSI were to run analysis…well…you don’t want to know.
The Problem with Beer Pong
The need for a ball toss game like beer pong, that isn’t beer pong, is right there in the name of the latter. Technically, beer pong is for the 21+ crowd. Sure, kids can technically play without beer in the red cup, but that’s like giving them candy cigarettes (remember those?) which sets the table for bad habits in adulthood. Further, it’s mostly only fun because of the drinking element. It’s really quite rudimentary when you think about it.
Enter Popongo
Popongo is America’s new favorite ball, cup, and toss game that is suitable for family households, tailgate parties, and frat houses alike! While it may follow the same basic principles of its predecessors, it adds more competitive and engaging elements. It’s even educational (when you want it to be). Moreover, the set is easier to set up, and store, although it looks cool enough to leave on “display” which is known to incite impromptu games between friends and family members.
Simple put, if you’re looking for bag and ball toss games like cornhole and beer pong, Popongo is it! View details on how to play, watch the game in action, and pick up your own set right here.
